Seasons as Choreographers: Where Over the World is Astronaut Scott Kelly? is a choreographic installation project that took place from March 2015 to March 2016. Seasons offer, set conditions, cause and enable various kind of experiences and ways of moving. Understood like this they can be considered as choreographic agencies. In the project, a choreographer examines the question how the human body is part of the planetary movements by embodying choreographies that are conditioned by the movement of the planet Earth around the Sun.

When the project began, the NASA – astronaut Scott Kelly was launched into the space for a one-year long mission. I followed his Twitter-account into which he posted images of the surface of the planet Earth throughout the year. I thought of him as a duet partner for this project. He orbited the Earth 12 times per day in the height of 400 kilometres. In the project, I walked calmly the chosen route around the Theatre Academy Helsinki and collected tweets that were produced by these walks into a video-loop. The sound-material of the installation is an edited recording from the live-broadcast of the departure of Scott Kelly and his colleagues from the International Space Station on 1.3.2016 before returning to the Earth.

Seasons as choreographers: Where Over the World is Astronaut Scott Kelly?  on yhden vuoden kestävä projekti maaliskuusta 2015 maaliskuuhun 2016. Projekti selvittää kysymystä siitä, miten vuodenajat koreografioivat koreografia. Planetaarisia kiertoliikkeitä voi pitää koreografisina toimijoina, koska ne asettavat ehtoja ihmisen liikkumiselle. Planetaaristen kiertoliikkeiden lisäksi olen projektin aikana seurannut NASAn astronautti Scott Kellyn vuoden kestävää avaruuslentoa.

Projektin yhtenä ekologis-kontekstuaalisena ajatuksena on, että maailma tapahtuu liikkeenä ja liikkeessä. Koreografi on tässä projektissa henkilö, joka selvittää sitä miten kokemuksellinen ihmisruumis on osa jo olemassa olevia ruumista ympäröiviä liikkeitä planetaarisessa mittakaavassa. Tämä tunnistamisen, nimeämisen ja jäsentämisen prosessi avaa merkityksellisen koreografisen maailmassa olemisen kokemuksen.

Valitsin projektia varten reitin Teatterikorkeakoulun ympäri, jota kävelen vuodenaikojen läpi. Projektin alkaessa NASA – astronautti Scott Kelly laukaistiin avaruuteen yhden vuoden kestävälle tehtävälle. Olen seurannut hänen Twitter -tiliään, jonne hän postittaa kuvia maapallon pinnasta. Olen ajatellut hänet duettoparikseni. Scott Kelly kiertää maapalloa 400 kilometrin korkeudessa 12 kertaa vuorokaudessa. Minä kävelen rauhallisesti ympäri Teatterikorkeakoulua.

Installaation äänimateriaali on editoitu nauhoitus NASA –tv:n live-lähetyksestä, jossa seurattiin Scott Kellyn ja hänen kollegoidensa lähtöä kansainväliseltä avaruusasemalta 1.3.2016 ennen heidän paluutaan takaisin Maahan.
