Last episode of the astrotrilogy, åstra is a third performance installation that forms and transforms like the two first parts at the intersection of queer-ed spaces/bodies and interplanetary culture. Complementing pompom (Tokyo 2017-18) and ri:vr (Paris 2019), åstra (San Fransisco 2019-20) continues to explore ‘astroembodied choreostructions’, which is a term that describes my works in which questions of corporeality and embodiment materialize, beyond the human spatial scale, towards, and in, an interplanetary dimension. For this opus contemporary science fiction and queer theory are in choreographic dialogue with astrobiology, exoplanets, outer space colonies projects and the history of planetary dances. The process of creation follows the amplified-site-specificity dramaturgy of the astrotrilogy and it is informed by its geographic and cultural context, that of one-month fusion with the shores, deserts and stellar skies of California.

Astrotrilogy is a collaboration with French artist Vincent Roumagnac, in the continuation of Kellokumpu & Roumagnac’s duo-collaboration, started in 2010.

åstra on esityksellinen installaatioprojekti joka jatkaa ja päättää astrotrilogian, jonka aikaisempia osia ovat pompom (Tokio 2017/8) ja ri:vr (Pariisi 2019). Prosessin lähtökohtina ovat kokemuksellinen vino tila, interplanetaarinen kulttuuri sekä astrobiologian ja science fictionin yhteenkietoutumat. Koko projekti jatkaa työtäni ‘astroruumiillisten koreostruktioiden’ parissa, joissa kysymykset ruumiillisuuden ja materiaalisuuden välisistä suhteista laajenevat ihmisen kokoisen ja kestoisen mittakaavan yli ulkoavaruuteen.
